Summer Birds

It’s July! Time to take a few days and celebrate the Fourth of July here in Catonsville! My niece Caroline is coming to stay for a few days….it’s fun time with the girls next door, cook outs, parade, fireworks, and just summer fun! The girls are also coming to Indiana to celebrate with Aunt Mimi/Miss Mimi and if you see them there, ask them what we’ve been sewing!
The Baltimore Orioles have been bringing excitement to baseball in Baltimore! Here’s my version of the Oriole Bird from my Hon quilt! I love stitching these birds because they are so cute and simple….just two (or three!) pieces! Some of the vintage Baltimore quilts have more complicated birds with more pieces, more feathers, tiny feet. I like to start simple and have fun with the colors.
The saying “How ’bout them O’s!” comes from an announcer for the team. To me, he’s really saying “Isn’t life in Baltimore the best, Hon!”
