When I describe historic Baltimore Album Quilts, I like to use the words “predominantly red and green”. I love the red and green ones, but often there’s some blue, gold, pink, yellow, brown, and even a little purple. When I taught my first year-long class, one of my students told me she didn’t like red and green. After a deep breath, I told her, “It’s your quilt. You can make it any color you like!” Thus began a journey watching students experiment with many color combinations. It was great to give them permission, and fabulous to see the results! This pink and purple version was the spark!
