Two last finishing steps for the fourth block. The center square is actually a great example of reverse appliqué. The square was back-basted, the center was cut out leaving 1/4” seam allowances, the corners were clipped, then appliqued. When I placed the green fabric on the background, the square was lined up on the straight grain of the green fabric, so the edges turned under smoothly and the corners, which were clipped on the bias, turned under easily without fraying. As part of the documentation of this quilt, I chain-stitched the date. This little two inch square is much too small to document everything that this date signifies!
